Reiki is a very gentle and nurturing hands on (or slightly above the body) way of connecting with the life force, universal energy, that flows through us all and keeps us alive. While this energy is unseen and subtle, it can have a strong impact on how we feel physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. If our life force is low, we may be more likely to become stressed or ill, or simply not as happy and healthy as we can be. When our life force is high, we are stronger, happier and healthier and probably enjoying our life more.

While Reiki does not in itself cure illnesses, it works with and supports the body's own inherent healing ability to promotes well being by helping to release the body's own natural energy flow.. This energy flow may be blocked due to stress, illness, anxiety, confusion, fear and anger, any number of factors. The body can be likened to a great river. While the water is running unrestricted, it is strong and healthy and vibrant. When there are heavy rocks or pollution or debris in the river, the water cannot run freely and becomes an unhealthy trickle. When our life force is running freely, we too are strong and healthy and vibrant, however when our energy is blocked, we too become unhealthy and stressed.

A Reiki treatment is a gentle, nurturing treatment, where the practitioner's hands will be either on your body or slightly above. The energy, which is being channeled by the practitioner, will go to wherever it needs to go in the body. You may have a sore leg, however the source of the pain may be coming from your back therefore that is where the energy will go. You do not need to know this nor does the practitioner, however your body will know and the energy will naturally go there.
A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit bringing about many beneficial effects that can result in deep relaxation and increased feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
It can work very well in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic modalities and can assist in relieving side effects and promote recovery from surgery or illness.
While Reiki has only been well known in the western world for around 100 years, the origins of it are ancient. Reiki, as the philosophy and practice that we have recently come to know it as, was popularised in the early 19th century by a Japanese Doctor, Mikao Usui
