Writing can also be another way of working with issues that are difficult to understand clearly or to speak about.
The type of writing here is more the process of simply picking up a pen and starting to write without too much thinking, judging, or analyising the meaning is of what is being written. The process of writing can be very freeing, enabling you to start a process of movement around issues.
A particularly useful aspect of writing, is writing which includes dialogue between two parts of you, maybe two parts (or two selves) which are in conflict, eg., the inner child and the parent (either you as parent or your actual parent). Your dominant hand can write the part of you which you are more conscious of, and the use of your less dominant hand writing the part which you are not as conscious or aware of. This then becomes a powerful way of getting in touch with unconscious issues, seeing the other side of an issue and seeing what is stopping you from moving forward.
Writing around dreams is also an effective way of learning from the information and wisdom in our dreams. Identifying the part of the dream that most feels like you, writing from that perspective, then writing from the perspective of other parts of the dream (which are also part of you) can provide much insight into the meaning of dreams.
Writing, or keeping a journal, is also a very effective process which can easily be done alone between counselling sessions and then can be bought to your next session.
